Buildings Associated With Freemasons – Victoria

This building at 600-610 Courtney Street in downtown Victoria was built in 1913 for Stephen Jones (1869-1933), a Victoria hotelier who was Grand Master of B.C. & Yukon in 1925.

Stephen Jones built this structure as an addition to the adjacent building he already owned at 901-905 Government Street. It was intended as a commercial building with retail or office space on the main street level and office or hotel space on the second floor.

The building has retained that configuration since it was built.

Together with the adjacent building at 901-905 Government Street it is listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places. Both buildings are legally consolidated as one building for tax assessment purposes.

Stephen Jones served as Grand Master of B.C. & Yukon in 1924.1925. he is buried in Victoria’s Ross Bay Cemetery.
