Here is a brief biographical sketch of Brother George Frederick Mowat taken from his obituary in the Cowichan Leader newspaper:
“Mowat – George Frederick Mowat, camp 3, died yesterday morning at Duncan Hospital. He is survived by his wife and family at Camp 3, where he had worked as woods boss. The funeral will be held to-day at the Davis Funeral chapel with the Masonic Lodge participating. Further details will be published next week.”

“Mowat – Funeral services for George Frederick Mowat, Youbou, who died at Duncan Hospital last Wednesday morning, were held on Thursday afternoon.
The Rev. W.F. Burns, Duncan United Church, conducted a service in the Davis Funeral Service Chaple which was very largely attended by friends from Cowichan Lake and Duncan. There were a profusion of tributes.
Interment was made in Mountain View Cemetery, Somenos, with full Masonic ritual. Pallbearers were: Wor. Bro. M.W. Cook, Bro. V.M. Galbraith, Bro. D.W. McKenzie, Bro. R.H. Vye, Bro. J.F. Clarke and Bro. H.F. Peck.
Mr. Mowat, who was born on August 30, 1894, in Vancouver, had been unwell about a month. He was in hospital two weeks before his death.
He was educated in Vancouver and in his youth was a keen lacrosse player. He came to Cowichan Lake about 20 years ago and had been in the employ of Industrial Timber Mills, Camp 3, Youbou, where he was very popular with his fellow workers.
He was a member of Temple Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and the Elks Lodge, Duncan, and was well known and well liked in Duncan as well as at the lake.
He leaves, besides his wife and two sons, two brothers, Carl and Sidney, both of Camp 3, Youbou; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Yeatman, Vancouver, who came over for the funeral. Mrs. G.F. Mowat’s sister, Mrs. Ted Minkley, West Vancouver, and her father and brother, Messrs. Bob Godfrey, sen., and Bob Godfrey, jun., were also present at the funeral.”
