Vancouver Island Masonic History Project
As part of our Vancouver Island Masonic History Project, with its sections on Vancouver Island Cemeteries – Masonic Interments and Deceased Brethren, here is a page on Karl Louis A. Roller (1855-1890), who is buried in Ross Bay Cemetery, Victoria, B.C.
We do not know a lot about Karl Louis A. Roller at this time. His gravestone in Ross Bay Cemetery says he was born in Basel, Germany on 17 November 1855 and died at Victoria, B.C. on 31 January 1890. The gravestone displays the Masonic Square & Compasses.
Here is the local newspaper report of Karl Louis Roller’s death and funeral:
“Roller – In this city, on the 31st inst.[note: 31 January 1890], Louis Roller, a native of Germany, aged 35 years.
The funeral will take place from the residence, Douglas Street, on Sunday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, and from Christ Church Cathedral half an hour later.”
